Why Your Health Insurance Renewal Feels So Heavy
Your renewal is not the only lever. Here is the market context behind the number on the page — and what you can actually control.
The Massachusetts Rate Environment
Other carrier-filed proposed increases include UnitedHealthcare at 14.2%, Mass General Brigham Health Plan at 13.5%, WellSense at 11.9%, Tufts Health Public Plans at 11.8%, and Health New England at 11.1%. These figures were still subject to final Division of Insurance decision as of the filing page.

Employer-sponsored insurance premiums rose 4.8%, while member cost-sharing rose 4.4%. Roughly 2 in 5 residents statewide reported at least one family healthcare affordability issue.

Why Construction & Manufacturing Feel It Differently
Wage-sensitive employees compare weekly paycheck impact, not just deductible levels.
Family coverage affordability often determines whether a new hire actually enrolls.
Physical job demands raise the stakes on musculoskeletal and disability exposure.
Workers’ comp overlap means health benefits and claims strategy are not separate conversations.
Recruiting competition from larger employers puts pressure on both wages and benefits.
Bid and production math make it hard to simply absorb a double-digit renewal.
